This Week's Treasure of the Week

Week 35
Spitfire

This spitfire plane is a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a fighter plane.  The original planes were primarily used by the Royal Air Force, although many allied forces also used them. It was produced from 1938 to 1948 and 20,351 were built.

It made its first flight in March 1936 from Southampton.  It is probably the greatest machine ever made by man, and one that certainly evokes passion all over the world.  Its grace and beauty were unmatched and probably still aren't today, some 70 years on.  A devastatingly effective fighter, very forgiving, but a real thoroughbred.  In the turn it had no equals, as many an enemy fighter plane found to their detriment. This is just one of ten model planes hanging high in the engine room.
