Calibration Containers

These two fuel containers housed in their original beautiful wooden box are a fine example of the calibration containers used by the Trading Standards Authority in the 1930's. They were used for the calibration of fuel pumps on garage forecourts, to ensure that exactly the correct level of petrol was given to a customer. They came in ½, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 gallon measures.

This particular example was originally in use in Scarborough in 1930, and was purchased privately by Oakham Treasures alongside several other fine samples of calibration containers. They can all be viewed in the engine room at the museum.
